October 6th Field Trip

For the October field trip the following is scheduled:

1:00pm-Tour of the Mesa Drive-In (The kids will get to see how the production room works and learn a little about its history. This can qualify as both history and science time.)

2:00pm-Disanti Farm Pumpkin Patch (Large pumpkins are $4 a piece. This can qualify as science time as children learn more about farms.)

You MUST register by OCT. 4TH for these events so we can let the Drive-In and Farm know how many children to expect and plan appropriately.

Swim Lessons for PE Credit

YMCA of Pueblo is offering swim lessons for Home schooled kids.  3-5 are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:0am-1:15pm, and ages 6 and up from 1:30-2:15pm. Classes are $20/child/month. We risk losing these classes, due to low enrollment.

The swim teachers are really fantastic, and my 2nd grader has gone from barely dog paddling to swimming the backstroke unassisted. I can't say enough about the instructors (far better than your average "rec center" swim teachers).

This class offers the following benefits:

• Swimming skills; obviously important for safety and overall health
• a Chance to get to know other home schooled (COVA and otherwise) children
• An opportunity to swim without the after-school crowds
• A GREAT way to fill in PE hours

Some Updates

• There will be no activity on Sept. 22nd
• A field trip is in the works in the Pueblo area for Oct 6th! Details will be coming.
• We have found a church to meet at, which is very exciting news! This means we can really get this going. Details will be coming. Classes will begin on a regular basis in Oct.
• We are still looking for a group facilitator for the 3rd-5th grade group. The facilitator will contact parent volunteers to plan classes and make sure that these grades have someone to head up their class each time. If no one volunteers no activities will be planned for this age group.

Volunteer Needed!

We are looking for a Group Facilitator for the 3rd-5th grade group. If you have a child in one of these grades please consider volunteering to take this position for the fall semester. This position involves coordinating parent volunteers for upcoming activities and ensuring that an activity or class is planned for this age group. You will receive a directory of other parents in your child's age group for you to contact for help. If no parents volunteer to help in this capacity, this age group will have no way for activities to be planned for them.

Coming Up!

Nature Exploration:
This is just a reminder that our first activity will be tomorrow, Wed. Sept 8th, 1-3pm at Pueblo Mountain Park Environmental Center. A group will be meeting at the Walmart on Pueblo Blvd. and Northern at 12:30 to caravan up. Some have asked about carpooling. If you are interested in carpooling or can fit others in your car please leave a comment on the blog so those who want to carpool can meet up.
